Baritone Andy Papas and native Bostonian has been applauded by the Albany Times-Union for his “irresistible hijinks” and by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel for being “delightfully ridiculous”. He is back with PNO for the fifth time, after previous stints as Bartolo in The Barber of Seville, Alberich in The Ring, and Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola. Andy is excited to return to other familiar haunts this season, performing L’Italiana in Algieri in Alaska for Anchorage Opera, and singing Mustafa in Houston in this co-production with Opera in the Heights. In February, he will once again be seen in Rhiannon Giddens & Michael Abels’ Omar’s Journey in a debut with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, roles he premiered at the Ojai Music Festival alongside Giddens & Abels. Andy most recently appeared as Hortensius in La Fille du Regiment with The Opera Co. of Middlebury, where he also made his stage directing debut in Rossini’s La Scala di Seta. Other notable performances include the title role in Don Pasquale for both Opera Saratoga & Union Avenue Opera, Bartolo with Anchorage Opera, and Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow for Opera Saratoga. Offstage, Andy teaches students around the globe in opera courses such as The British Operas are Coming and Strauss in the Haus, among others. Much Love to Chris & The Papas Fam. andypapas.com
